Focus Group on Stormwater Protection
As you strive to expand your business or rebuild, how does stormwater protection fit into the picture? What would help you to make a decision among the choices of stormwater management and regulations that are, or could be, available?
You are cordially invited to participate in a small focus group to discuss your concerns on stormwater retrofits and design, and how we might be able to help. What are your thoughts about a prepackaged economic analysis of different options, i.e., á la carte, already engineered solutions with costs listed to make it easier and save time for developers? Would you benefit from a list of pre-qualified engineers (that the city would provide)?
The focus group meeting has been changed and now will be held on Wednesday, June 26th from 9:30-11:30 am at the Greater Lowell Chamber of Commerce, 131 Merrimack St., Lowell, MA.
The focus group is part of a two-year Urban Waters grant provided by the EPA to the Northern Middlesex Council of Governments (NMCOG) and the Merrimack River Watershed Council (MRWC) to help clean up the Merrimack River water through education. Specifically, the grant is intended to help address polluted runoff – the polluted water from rain or melted snow that ‘runs off’ hard surfaces, such as parking lots, into storm drains, and eventually, the river. Polluted runoff is one of the greatest problems facing our rivers and streams today. Polluted runoff can affect your health, harm wildlife, contribute to flooding, and costs you and your town or city money to cleanup. NMCOG, MRWC, and its partners are working together to create a polluted runoff education program for the region.
We hope that you can come. Please RSVP to Caroly Shumway at cshumway@merrimack.org by Friday, June 21st. We look forward to seeing you there!
