Chamber Open EDGE
Topic: Sexual Harassment Training
Discussion Leader: Beverly Purtell, Management Consultant
The State of Massachusetts has had an expansive law against sexual harassment for the past 20 years. The law outlines quid pro quo and hostile work environment harassment, provides examples of illegal and inappropriate behavior, and mandates investigations and remedy proceedings. While MA does not mandate Sexual Harassment training, as Maine and Connecticut do, it “encourages employers” to do so.
Given the attention to this subject in the last year, the cultural shift that is taking place, and the #MeToo movement, sexual harassment training for managers, boards, and employees should be on every employer’s radar screen in 2018. Roger Ailes, Bill O’Reilly, Harvey Weinstein, Matt Lauer (and the list goes on and on), outrageous behavior, and staggering settlements have caught the attention of employers and employees alike.
Since MA passed its sexual harassment law, sexual harassment training has been one of the mainstays of Beverly's consulting. She has provided numerous management, board, and employee trainings throughout New England to help employers mitigate risk and provide a harassment-free work environment that is both a right and responsibility of each employee. Our workshop will encompass what the law mandates, sexual harassment policy recommendations, and an examination of where your organization might have work to do! Join us on Tuesday, February 6, to learn and discuss.
